Ski-purpose Grease - a vital addition
Greasing skis is often neglected by beginner ski enthusiasts, which is very unjust. Proper care of cross-country ski glides will make them ride much smoother and also positively affect their durability. Importantly, if we equip ourselves with greases dedicated to our equipment, the whole process does not have to be difficult at all. Greasing cross-country skis can be done hot or cold. The first method is definitely more labor-intensive and requires more equipment. A special iron is needed to melt and spread the grease on the ski. Then you have to remove the excess and brush off the glide. For those who live for cross-country skiing on a daily basis, this is just a ski service, but if you are just starting your cross-country skiing adventure, you can have this hot greasing done at a service shop.
In addition, it is possible to grease skis cold and even novice cross-country skiers can perform this task. Cold greases for cross-country skis are available in the form of blocks, sprays, and also in liquid form, usually with a sponge applicator. Usually, it is enough to spread the grease on the glide surface and then polish it. Although cold greasing is not as effective as hot greasing, it is still incomparable to the situation when we do not grease the skis at all. That is why it is worth getting appropriate greases for cross-country skis even before the first outing. They will save us in many cases when after fresh snowfall our skis simply "stop skiing." The difference will be noticeable already with the first push-offs after greasing.
Greases for classic and skate skiing
In the case of skate skis, greasing is very simple. We grease the entire ski for gliding. A little more effort is required for classic-style cross-country skis. In them, we have a kick zone in the middle of the glide, under the shoe, which should allow for push-off during running. In sports and classic cross-country skis, this zone is smooth and we must use special kick waxes on it. This process requires at least some basic experience. For this reason, in touring and recreational skis, a special scale or skin is usually used in this middle zone. Scales are special grooves on the glide that lock the ski in backward motion but allow gliding. Skins work on the same principle, but instead of grooves on the glide, there is a special hair. When greasing skis with scales or skins, it is important to use the appropriate grease. For skins, there are greases available to prevent them from icing, while for scales, greases for cross-country skis in spray or liquid form with a sponge applicator are most commonly used. The remaining part of the glide, i.e. the front and back of the ski, is simply greased for gliding. In the 8a-shop.hr store offer, we provide a wide selection of greases for cross-country skis with scales, skins, and without them. Universal ski grease is a must-have for longer ski trips.
